WDCS is proud to be the official conservation charity partner of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 09-10. The race crews taking part will be helping to collect vital data on whale and dolphin sightings en route as well as raising much needed funds for our work to protect whales and dolphins across the worldAs part of this partnership, Matthias Berger, a 32 year old Austrian citizen from the province of Vorarlberg who currently resides in Hong Kong, is undertaking the challenge of a lifetime and sailing two legs of the Clipper Round the World Yacht race in support of WDCS. He is a crew member on the racing yacht "Qingdao" and will be participating in legs 4 and leg 5 of the race, from Australia via Singapore to China and then the Pacific crossing to the West Coast of the US - a total of 10,340 nautical miles. As you read this he is underway and en route to Singapore having left Geraldtown in Western Australia on the 3rd January.
Matthias is fundraising for WDCS by asking people to sponsor him for a mile of his epic journey through his justgiving site: http://www.justgiving.com/matt-round-the-world
The money raised will go to support WDCSs work to protect the Chinese White Dolphin that inhabits the waters of Hong Kong Bay and the China coast and he is hoping to have every mile of his journey sponsored to raise at least £10,000 towards this vital work.
Please do support Matthias in his efforts. You can follow his progress through his own website here.
