School children in Scotland had a great time getting involved in Save the Whale Week 2010 this February! Alison Jordan, the Education Officer at the WDCS Wildlife Centre in Spey Bay, visited schools in Moray to talk to pupils about the problems of whaling. Alison said: "It was great to meet so many children who are passionate about whales and dolphins, and who were so keen to help conserve them for the future."

In 1986 many countries got together at a meeting called the International Whaling Commission and decided to ban commercial whaling, which is when people kill whales to make money. But sadly some countries are ignoring this ban and are still killing these amazing animals, even though many species are now endangered. WDCS are doing all we can to stop whaling altogether.

WDCS asked school children in South Ayrshire to enter a competition to make posters to help raise awareness of Save the Whale Week. We are pleased to announce the winning poster was made by Keir Anderson from Minishant Primary School. He is the lucky winner of a digital camera, a WDCS goodie bag and an Adopt a Dolphin membership, plus PC World Vouchers for his school! The second prize of a WDCS goodie bag and an Adopt a Dolphin membership was won by Keith Halliday from Holmston Primary School.
