Leading European actor lends his voice to anti-whaling campaign
With a decision on a proposal that will lift the ban on commercial whaling for the next ten years only a few weeks away, and the members of the European Union still struggling to find a common position concerning a practice which is strictly prohibited by law within European Union waters, leading European actor, Mario Adorf has added his voice to the anti-whaling movement by narrating a moving campaign film on behalf of WDCS (the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society).
WDCS, which is campaigning to keep the current whaling ban in place, has launched Jenny, a new 90 second short film designed to wake decision makers from their current state of inactivity and to call on the wider public to act against the lifting of the whaling ban when the International Whaling Commission meets to make its decision in Morocco this June.

"The film tells you all you need to know about whaling. It is cruel and not necessary", says Nicolas Entrup, WDCS spokesperson.
"As a charity we rely on the media to support a public discussion about this important conservation issue by making the film accessible", says Entrup, who is also hoping for offers of pro bono advertisement space at TV stations, cinemas and online-platforms.
WDCS is supported by Adorf, one of Germanys top actors, who played the lead character in the Oscar-winning movie "The Tin Drum" and has featured in more than 150 other European films.
"Whales are fascinating creatures", said Adorf. "Its important to bring their fate to the attention of the public because they need our help right now."
Jenny, can be seen on www.whales.org and urges the public to become active against the lifting of the whaling ban by signing an e-protest and e-petition, which is automatically delivered to various governments. The film has been developed by the German agency denkwerk and produced by the Munich production company Tango Film. All involved in the project donated their work and time for free.
